Hydrolit Mg
Uses: De-acidification and neutralisation
Hydrolit Mg is a porous filtration media, comprising rounded grains chiefly of magnesium oxide. It is used for the neutralisation of industrial waste waters and the de-acidification of potable waters, and is available in three sizes:
0.5 – 2.5, 2 – 5 and 5 – 10mm.
Typical Chemical Analysis
MgO … 70 – 75%
CaO … 4 – 5%
Fe2O3 … 3 – 4%
Al2O3 … 3 – 4%
SiO2 … 3 – 4%
LOI … 16 – 20%
Bulk Density
1200 kg/m3 (0.5 – 2.5mm) or 1300 kg/m3 (2 – 5 and 5 – 10mm)
Consumption
Per gram of acid, including losses on backwashing (all figures are approximate):
Sulphuric acid … 0.63g
Hydrochloric acid … 0.85g
Nitric acid … 0.49g
Acetic acid … 0.52g
Carbon dioxide … 0.74g
For neutralisation of waste water, use of a filter bed with 20% Hydrolit Mg is recommended; for de-acidification of potable water the suggested figure is 10%.
